Aircraft information and history:
D-Day Air Supremacy:
June 6th 1944 marked the beginning of Operation Overlord and the Battle of Normandy. On this day, some 156,000 Allied troops from Britain, America and Canada landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of northern coast of occupied France. It was the largest ever amphibious military assault.
A colossal airborne offensive provided air support for the naval invasion forces. Black and white recognition stripes hastily painted on Allied aircraft minimised the risk of ‘friendly fire’ incidents.
Victory in Europe was declared on May 8th 1945. D-Day proved to be the beginning of the end of World War 2.
This particular model represents D-Day heritage liveried F-15C c/n 919 serial 84-0010 of 493d Fighter Squadron “The Grim Reapers” based at RAF Lakenheath
